They

This is what started my "they" collection. I had always wondered, and here it was explained.

Gary Larson cartoon “YOU, Bernie Horowitz? … So YOU’RE the ‘they’ in ‘that’s what they say’?”

It's a cartoon by Gary Larson and shows someone at a table of phones with the word They .

Ed McBain

Ed McBain autograph They say it’s gonna be even hotter tomorrow Monoghan said Who’s they Monroe aske

I was at a reading at The Lounge in Melbourne where Ed McBain read from his latest book

".Who's they?" Monroe asked.

"The weather guys."

"Then why didn't you say so? Why do people always say they this they that, instead of who the hell they is supposed to be.

I thought it would be a good thing to sign rather than just getting the book signed. I asked him if he had ever seen the cartoon, he said he hadn't so I left a copy of it with the photocopied passage at his hotel and he kindly signed the passage

Eartha Kitt

Eartha Kitt autograph They say that I'm a witch I'd rather be burned as a witch than never be burned

This is one of my favourite autographs, it's from the song "I'd Rather Be Burned as a Witch".

Gillian Welch

Gillian Welch they autograph Everything is free now that's what they say

All I can say here is if you get the chance to see Gillian Welch and David Rawlings live you have to go

Ryan Adams

Ryan Adams They Autograph
Funny how they say that some things never change Oh my sweet Carolina

I have been collecting these autographs for more than 10 years, Ryan Adams is the first to get it straight off - no lengthy explanation needed. He just took the pen and started writing - very cool.

Lucinda Williams

James Marsters - Spike

Spike from Buffy the Vampire slayer autograph
And, uh, they are?
The government? Nazis? A major cos

This is the first time I have paid for an autograph. I'm a 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' and 'Angel' fan so I went to Supernova in Melbourne and paid to enter then paid to queue and have this signed. After signing for almost 2 days James Marsters was still charming and nice

Iris de Ment

Iris de Ment autograph And just like they say nothing good ever lasts

Loved this gig at The Continental in Greville St.

Paul Kelly

Be Careful What You Pray For
How to Make Gravy
Lion and the Lamb
Bradman
Stories of Me
Execution

This is the most "theys" by one person, I got this at Basement Discs in Melbourne where they are selling the book and CDs, I'm hoping that after reading the book I might be able to work out who the theys are

Tammy Wynette

image23

This is kind of a cheat because we know that "they" are The KLF , if I had known more about Tammy Wynette when she toured Australia in 1992 I would not have used this song, but  "They say he built the mansion for the love of a woman "  from Old Old House by George Joned and Hal Bynum

Steve Earle

I think I got this in Leicester in the UK in 2005 - great gig.

Paul Auster

This was a really interesting night - I got a bruise on my foot from a book falling off the sale table at Readings in Hawthorn, a book written by the stripper who broke up my marriage a year earlier and a year uglier than it should have.
